“At the table of peace, there will be bread and justice.” (Unknown)
All week, I’ve been pondering a post for this blog. I’m tired. I’m discouraged. I’m angry. My usual commentaries on kindness, living through a pandemic, or a government that has utterly failed its responsibilities to its citizens seem inadequate. And even if they weren’t, I’m angry, I’m tired, I’m discouraged.
I read a post this morning from Charlescearl’s Weblog that said what I wish I had the words to say, and what I wish all people will take the time to read. His final line gives me hope…
Why is Atlanta Burning? https://charlesearl.blog/2020/05/29/why-is-atlanta-burning/
Yes. These are dark, cruel days. We need to find a way to return to the light.

I so agree, Cindy … but I fear it’s gonna be a while.

You are human. You are honest. You are right to be angry. This is too much, too much.

I hear you: this is a terrible & cruel time in America. It IS exhausting to witness, and to check our own white privilege. But we MUST support and agitate, so this never happens again! You’re only human: it’s OK to admit defeat some days, then step up again after a good sleep (& perhaps a debrief with a friend). Take care of yourself Donna, and rest assured you are on the right side xO, G

If you weren’t tired and discouraged by what is going on around us, I’d be worried about your mental health. Kindness is acknowledging the good and the bad in a balanced way. Or at least my definition of it is that.

Thanks, Ally, I had to smile at the reality that in our world today, “mental health” means being agitated and disheartened. You’re so right about the importance of finding balance. Thanks!

I think it’s hard not to be discouraged right now and to have hope for the future. The pandemic was bad enough, but then we had a senseless and unnecessary death and the violence that it caused. It seems to be a vicious cycle that we can’t find our way out of, which is beyond discouraging. If only we could learn from the past…..instead, we seem to keep repeating it.

You’re right, Ann … it’s like a nightmarish “Groundhog Day.” Thanks!
